Peter Knapp was born in 1931 in Switzerland. In 1952, he settled in Paris and started producing paintings. Robert Rauschenberg encouraged him to paint on a large format.

From 1957 to 1965, the artist took part in numerous collective exhibitions. But he was also very interested in photography. In 1959, he became a fashion photographer for magazines such as "Elle". From 1966, he worked for magazines such as "The Sunday Times", "Vogue" and "Stern". From then on, Peter Knapp enjoyed worldwide fame. In 1975, he moved away from fashion photography with the "La photo et l'art" exhibition where he exhibited alongside artists such as Andy Warhol. His career has also led him to work as a graphic artist for the Galeries Lafayette department store in France. From 1959 to 1966, he became artistic director of the magazine "Elle". Peter Knapp speaks of his unconventional career, and takes us to Basel for the creation of one of his latest works for the Tinguely Museum.
