Goldin works on the very edge of modern photography, reliving her most intimate experiences in the seething cauldron of the New York underground scene.

Born in 1953, Nan Goldin discovered photography when she was 16, in an experimental school, but only began working as a photographer in the early Seventies. Goldin works on the very edge of modern photography, reliving her most intimate experiences in the seething cauldron of the New York underground scene. Her photographs chart her emotions, her pleasures and her friendships with transvestites, homosexuals and transsexuals, but they also convey her solitude.
