In 2001, 10 years after the Gulf War, Saddam Hussein's dictatorship seemed unshakeable. But the attacks of September 11 changed the odds: the country was designated by the administration of former president George Bush as a country that supported terrorism and belonged to "the axis of evil".

ARTE Reportage regularly travelled to Baghdad, before during and after the war. During each of these trips, far from "embedment", the film crew witnessed the reality of the country through the perspective of the Iraqis. The people they followed during their trips recount their daily lives under the embargo, in the run up to the war, during the first days of conflict and after the fall of Saddam Hussein.
