Between the taking of Ra's Lanouf on March 5 and its fall 6 days later, the ARTE Reportage team followed the moments when everything changed, when optimism switched sides. It was already all there, even if nobody had mentioned collapse or defeat yet.

It was less than two weeks ago...Opponents of the Gaddafi regime had just taken the Ra's Lanouf oil refinery. It was a jubilant moment and the budding army hoped to march on Tripoli.

At the same time, in Benghazi, industrial leaders and businessmen were attempting to turn the economy, in their own attempt to take part in the war effort.
But the seeds of defeat were already perceptible: badly armed and poorly organised men, a national council that was overwhelmed by the task it had to accomplish, and the sound of Gaddafi's heavy weapons approaching.
