8 months ago, Pakistan experienced the worst floods in its history: 160,000 km², a surface area larger than the whole of England, was pounded with torrential rain. Nearly 2,000 people died. And 20 million others were victims of the disaster.

The UN estimates that the consequences of these floods are even more serious than those of the tsunami in 2004.

Overwhelmed by the extent of the catastrophe, the Pakistani State today lacks both the means and the will to cope. International aid was mobilised at the time, as a matter of urgency, but it has since deserted the country, being called upon elsewhere, for other humanitarian catastrophes. But for the Pakistanis, last summer's floods remain cruelly topical.
