A bamboo raft that glides, carried along by the river Luong, between hills and mountains...
Between the Hô Chi Minh highway and Laos, in north-west Vietnam, the Thanh Hoa is the country's poorest and most densely populated province.

In the mountainous areas of ethnic minorities, far from the major cities and economic boom that Vietnam is undergoing - with an annual growth rate of over 8% - the mountain dwellers of Thanh Hoa have only one resource - the exploitation of Luong, the local variety of bamboo. For a long time, this exploitation was carried out according to need, with no regard for the future or for the risk of deforestation.
