The transition to democracy is of primary importance to Tunisians, and is also being carefully scrutinised by all the dictators of the Arab World.

Tunisia went to the vote on October 23, to elect a Constituent Assembly. It was an important step, nine months after the revolution that toppled the dictator Ben Ali from power on 14 January 2011. But the post-revolution era is not without its pitfalls.

Brushing away the memory of the single party, 11,000 candidats are competing with each other to win one of the 217 deputy seats. The surge to prominence of the Islamist party Ennadha - forbidden under the Ben Ali regime - worries supporters of the democracy.
