Sophie is the latest Westerner to have been exfiltrated from northern Mali last weekend.
On Thursday 5 April 2012, her destiny was turned upside down.

The French Embassy in Bamako ordered her, by SMS, to rush to the Algerian Consulate. She took refuge in the consul's residence along with the consul's family, where, powerless to act, she witnessed the attack on the consulate by men from AQMI and Ançar Dine. She gives a staggering description of the event, with the Algerian flag being burnt and the streets echoing to the sound of gunshot.

Going against mainstream media, she wants to portray the hope that MNLA Tuaregs are generating among the various populations in northern Mali, as well as their motivations, which are clearly different from the Islamist and Jihadist movements.
