5 years of Taliban rule have left an indelible mark on the country. During their regime, there were a whole host of bans - on theatre, cinema and television. Musical instruments were burnt, singing and dancing was forbidden. Today, Afghanistan is struggling to free itself from this crushing weight.
Until the late 1980s, Kabul had a thriving artistic community. Radio Afghanistan would broadcast 24 hours a day, and groups of musicians would travel the country, animating the various events of Afghan life. Today, beyond an omnipresent fear, a few music lovers are still resisting and transmitting their passion.
