In the city of Antakya on the border of Turkey and Syria, Sunnis and Alawis used to live together peacefully. But Turkish government support for the Syrian opposition, led by the Sunnis, has disconcerted members of the Alawi community, which President Al-Assad belongs to.

In Antakya, where there is total support for Al Assad's Alawi regime, hostility is mounting towards Sunni Syrians who settled in Turkey years ago, and the some 62,000 refugees fleeing the civil war. Aggressive pro-Assad demonstrations have not been relayed by the press, which wants to preserve a semblance of peace. In the field, tension is rising between border controls and thriving small businesses.
