One year before his death, Patrice Chéreau, a major figure of French cinema,  retraces his career on the occasion of an outstanding master class. Making a film is a sort of enigma to be solved, a secret to be pierced, he said. Patrice Chéreau relentlessly worked the mystery of cinema.

In 40 years and 25 films, Patrice Chéreau was awarded, amongst other prizes, a Golden Berlin Bear, a Silver Berlin Bear, a César, and a Jury Prize at Cannes.
For a long time, he shifted from the stage to film, and from film to opera, before tiring of theatre, which gave him the feeling that he was acting only on reflexes, whereas with cinema, everything was invented.
