Through two films, this documentary reveals the creation and disintegration, within our own time, of a neighbouring European State named Yugoslavia. Part One covers the 1918-1980 period. Part Two covers the 1980-2001 period.

Part One covers the period from 1918 to 1980, the year of Marshal Tito’s death, and explores the circumstances surrounding Yugoslavia’s foundation, as well as the years of unity beneath the banner of Tito’s version of communism. Part Two (1980-2001) concerns the catastrophic circumstances that befell the country from the dissolution of communism up until its final collapse during the five fratricidal wars.  Weaved into Part Two will be an exploration of the current state of affairs in the former Yugoslavian States today, from which vital lessons can be drawn for contemporary fissiparous struggles in the Ukraine and elsewhere.
