Nearly 100,000 Muslims live in Thrace, in North East Greece. The vast majority of them are of Turkish origin and still practice Sharia.

These mountains, marked by the cultivation of tobacco, are the lands of the Pomaks, Muslims of Slavic origin. Life for women here is harsh. Sharia governs their family life and conditions their social life. A suffocating atmosphere, under the watchful eye of the community. Who to see, what to wear, where to go, whom to marry … Twice a year a “wife bazaar” takes place. Hundreds of young girls parade around in headscarves and heels under the jaded eyes of boys. Although these women live in confinement, they are hopeful change will come.
