Sayaka Osakabe, a 37-year old Japanese woman, who was driven to resign by her boss because she was pregnant, is fighting to get mentalities to evolve.

In Japanese companies, it is customary for Japanese women to resign after getting married, or at the very latest when they become pregnant with their first child. For those who refuse to do so, like Sayaka Osakabe, their lives often turn into a nightmare, as they become victims of an insidious harassment - “mata-hara” - to force them to resign. 70% of Japanese women leave their jobs when they have a child, either by design or by force: they are the targets of disparaging words, breaches of contract, overtime, and are sometimes even asked to carry out physically demanding tasks. Although many women keep quiet, afraid to question the hierarchy, Sayaka Osakabe is one of the rare women to have dared attack her company before the Japanese industrial tribunal, and to have won. She now helps other victims. Especially given that Japan desperately needs its women to work. The working population is dropping relentlessly: from 87 million in 1995 to 66 million in 2013 and, according to forecasts, to 57 million in 2030.
