Anybody who thought slavery had been abolished can think again. According to the UN and several NGO reports, there are probably 30 million slaves worldwide. Among the most affected countries is Mahatma Gandhi’s India, with 15 million cases, accounting for half of all slaves worldwide.

Modern slavery is less visible and more underhand than before. Slave drivers have found new, subtler ways to enslave people. These methods no longer just include men and women in chains, they also involve instances of people trafficking, sexual exploitation, forced labour, debt bondage, and forced or arranged marriages. Victims of this system are termed “bonded labourers” or “forced labourers”. From North to South India, from the plains of the Punjab to the forests of Karnataka - an investigation into the new face of modern slavery.
