On the Way of Saint James, in the valley of the Hérault river, the magnificent village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert is built along a single street.

The charm of the village resides in the coolness of its covered passages, the colour of the old stone, in calm and spirituality. The village has been an hospitable refuge for many long centuries… Pilgrims continue to come here to pray before the relic of the cross, a gift from Charlemagne, now preserved in the Gellone abbey. On the edge of the village the « devil’s » bridge is a masterpiece of romanesque art, commissioned by William the Conqueror, and now on Unesco’s World Heritage list.
