On the shores of the biggest estuary in Europe, the Gironde, stands the village ‘at the end of the world’. Built in the 13th century by King Edward I of England, the citadel has had an eventful history.

On several occasions abandoned, conquered or destroyed, both by the hand of man or by the sea, the inhabitants have frequently been obliged to rebuild their home. Like its church, Saint Radegonde, overlooking the promontory and the estuary, Talmont stands proud and tall, resisting the ravages of time and the elements.
