Cordes-sur-Ciel appears like a stone sentinel, hanging from the sky… more than 200 metres above the Albigensian plains.

This rocky outcrop was chosen to build a refuge, which became a haven for the persecuted Cathars. Certain building facades still bear the traces of the Cathars’ and of Alchemists’ artwork, like an echo of their vision of the world and their pusrsuit of perfection.
