The Black Forest stretches out on over 200 kilometers, to the South-West of Germany. At the beginning of the Middle Ages, this forest planted by men, occupied only a small part of the huge forest that stretched out from the Rhine to the Danube.

The first inhabitants, especially the monks who came to evangelize the region, named this dark and thick forest, the Silvanigra, the Black Forest. During the Middle Ages, the discovery of silver ore brings prosperity in the Münstertal valley. However, in the 15th century, silver’s price crashes, in favor of gold’s. An alchemist was then asked to change silver into gold. This alchemist was named Faust, who became legendary thanks to Goethe. Men were worried by the Black Forest for a long time, whose imaginary was fed by a lot of legends.
