As an indentation on the vast Landes coast, the Arcachon Basin is a half-closed lagoon, open on the Atlantic Ocean. A landscape made of water and sand, shaped by the ocean and the winds.
As an indentation on the vast Landes coast, the Arcachon Basin is a half-closed lagoon, open on the Atlantic Ocean. A landscape made of water and sand, shaped by the ocean and the winds.
Just like a fortification, the sandy dune formed by the Cap-Ferret’s peninsula and the Dune of Pilat, protects the basin from the ocean’s assaults. Around it, the vast forest of the Lands – which is the largest wooded area in Europe - extends. It is mainly constituted from maritime pines, planted by man throughout the 18th Century.
