In the Côte-d’Or region, on what used to be the Dukes of Burgundy’s territory, vines stretch across the hillside for over 65 kilometres. The landscape has undergone multiple changes throughout the ages.

During the 12th century, Cistercian monks from Cîteaux Abbey received a donation of a few vines and improved their vineyard over the centuries. The vines were subsequently owned by the church as well as the Dukes of Burgundy, before being bought by wealthy traders in the early 17th century. Today, the region’s 1,247 vineyards are considered priceless. Every year, the price of the Hospices de Beaune wine is used as an indicator for the vintage as a whole.
