In the Canary islands, one of the autonomous communities of Spain, the island of Lanzarote has witnessed some of the largest eruptions in the history of volcanism. The island’s lunar landscape is a result of volcanic activity.

In the valley of La Geria, farmers grow vines in hundreds of small craters on land covered in black volcanic ash. All over the island, villages, roads, and the land have been carefully preserved to maintain the harmony of the lava landscape. In the South West of the island, the Timanfaya National Park is a unique 50-square-metre protected area of volcanic rock, made up of chaotic piles of stone.
