Out goes the Kuomintang. The victory of the Taiwanese opposition marks the arrival to power of a new generation of politicians

Faced with a sluggish economy, popular discontent and still tense relations with China, the new Taiwanese president must rise to numerous challenges. Elected in January 2016, Tsai-Ing-Wen not only won the presidential elections with over 56% of votes, but his party grabbed an absolute majority in Parliament. A slap in the face for the Kuomintang, in power since 1949. The recent elections were also marked by the emergence of a new generation of men and women politicians. Fresh blood, in a country in which, for a long time, politics were restricted to a very closed and conservative circle. This report presents a deputy of the New Power Party, a political formation created in January 2015 that has just obtained five seats in Parliament. Freddy Lin, an emblematic figure of the party and singer with the Black Metal group Chthonic, wants to give a voice to the Taiwanese youth.
