More than three million Syrians have become refugees in Turkey since the start of the war.

Syrian communities have grown up in the large towns of southern Turkey such as Adana, Gaziantep and Hatay, as well as in Istanbul. Gradually, their finances have dwindled, along with the sympathy the Turks feel towards them.

While their homeland is mired in war, many have no prospects in their land of adoption. To some, selling an organ seems the only option to get through. If they don’t take the decision to sacrifice one of their organs, it is often traffickers who see a profitable opportunity amidst this human misery: The weakest among them have been approached by intermediaries offering them a gruesome deal.
