The Nuer are at war. This people of the Nile, who lived through the Ottoman Empire, British colonization and Arabic domination when Sudan was a single country are now engaged in a civil conflict in South Sudan.

Besieged in the Waat region by government troops who are hostile towards them, the Nuer people are once again threatened with extermination. NGOs, which have come under attack, can provide no aid. Famine hangs over tens of thousands of internally-displaced civilians. Women and children have been forced to take to the road, just as the rainy season transforms every journey into an epic trial.
Some 900,000 South Sudanese in this region in the east of the country have already crossed the river which forms the border with Ethiopia. In total, almost 2 million people have fled the war. As for the men, they have no other choice but to fight to defend the land of their ancestors.
