In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the war officially ended a long time ago. But rape remains widespread: Every year, some 400,000 women are victim to this crime.
Some of them have been taken in by the Fondation Panzi, founded by Dr. Mukwege, a surgeon who takes care of them. For the past three years, Laurence Fischer, three-time world karate champion, has been working at the foundation to teach self-defense to women who have been raped. This encounter goes far beyond karate – it is a dialogue between women that encompasses strength, laughter, and tears.
