On Athens’ seafront, the Hellinikon airport has been abandoned since 2000. By the end of 2015, it was chosen by the state to temporarily host thousands of refugees who landed in distress.

They are not the only inhabitants around. Every day, a retired Greek, Yorgos, goes to the airport to clean the newly occupied terminal. Fallen into poverty since the economic crisis, he takes his meals daily with the Afghans in exchange of his volunteer work.

On the first floor resides another society, with different codes. The previous employees of the wealthy Olympic Airways airline have recreated their offices in perfect illegality. Nostalgic of their career and the privileges of the Onassis era, the organization asks the state to protect the memory of this place. Before the airport – that was sold to a foreign consortium – is transformed into a seaside resort to replenish the state budget.
