In north-eastern India, Assam spreads across the Himalayan foothills; it is furrowed by the tumultuous Brahmaputra. For more than 12 years, a floating hospital has been going from island to island in order to care for the isolated populations’ health.
These short-lived lands host about three million people. Living on these islands often implies total isolation at the start of the monsoon – the river’s currents prevent the inhabitants from moving around for multiple weeks. Being stuck on their islands, they cannot access the cities’ hospital centers.
