The Gamberaia Villa overlooks Florence from the hillsides of Settignano. It is one of the most sophisticated gardens in the region. This beautiful example of balance and harmony is marked with an emblematic Renaissance trait at the end of the main walkway: a Nymphaeum.

At the start of the seventeenth century, the Lapi family – rich Florentine merchants – built this villa amid the olive tree fields. Despite the restructuration it went through under the guidance of Princess Ghika at teh end of the nineteenth century, the garden retains its Renaissance identity. It does so thanks to the use of staple Renaissance materials: pebbles, scoriae, stones and especially seashells. With the orangery, citruses are the main attraction in Italian gardens. They have crossed the ages and marked Italian history from Roman to modern gardens.
