One of the mammals most affected by poaching in the world, pangolins are now an endangered species. The animals confiscated by customs are often sick and weakened – they are cared for in rescue centers before being released in the wild.

In Asia, eating pangolin flesh is considered a delicacy. The treat is a social status marker. Traditional Chinese doctors use its scales – its keratin – to cure asthma and psoriasis or even to stimulate a mother's milk flow. Even though the hunting of this mammal has been forbidden in Vietnam since the end of the 90s, poaching has not ceased with the ban. These last ten years, more than a million pangolins have been smuggled.
