The La Garenne Lemot park was borne by the feverish dream of an artist – sculptor François Frederic Lemot. In spite of his limited wealth, he would create a parcel of Italy in France at the start of the nineteenth century; thus leaving his mark on the region.

The domain sprawls on a surface of 13 hectares south-east of Nantes, bordering the Sevre river. As a young talented sculptor François Frederic Lemot was admitted to the Academy of France in Rome. In 1793 the French Revolution and the execution of Louis the sixteenth inspired anti-French riots that forced him to flee Italia. François Frederic Lemot found refuge in Clisson. Thanks to buildings inspired from Italian architecture and the sowing of Mediterranean plant species, he would create landscapes whose romanticism is inspired from those he admired so much in Italia. He also designed the house that overlooks the garden and the Sevre.
