A year after the most controversial president of the United States’ inauguration, we come back to Upper Cumberland – a white, rural and now poorer America.

Most of rural America, like Northern Tennessee, endorsed Trump’s candidacy. His “Make America Great Again” slogan resonated strongly – chanted by an electorate fully devoted to his cause in streets lined with closed down plants. Among them was Joe, the entrepreneur who hoped Trump would bring back the jobs that were delocalized to Mexico or China. There was also Steve, the pastor who was concerned with the rise of Islam, preaching in favor of a Trump presidency. A year after his inauguration, in face of the cold hard facts, do they still support a president who could not make good on many of his promises?
