28 years after Nelson Mandela’s liberation from prison, what have his dreams of a “Rainbow Nation” become?

A few years before his liberation, young white women armed solely with their courage had investigated the serious abuse black children were suffering in prison. 32 years later, the same women and children – now grown up – have come together to imagine the new South Africa. Some wounds do not heal… The wealth gap between the whites and the blacks  still exists, unemployment and violence are on the rise and the accusations of corruption against President Jacob Zuma tarnish the country’s image. But in the face of such dire circumstances the recent election of Cyril Ramaphosa – a former union leader and current businessman – at the head of the ANC (Nelson Mandela’s party) looks like a promise of better days for South Africa…
