Israel is celebrating its 70 years of existence. 70 years of conflict with Palestinians but also 70 years of peaceful cohabitation.
In Jaffa for instance – near Tel-Aviv –the two people live their daily lives together. But this cohabitation model is precarious and it is being threatened by gentrification in Jaffa. This district-village on the waterfront is proving increasingly popular among wealthy Israelis and tourists all across the world.
The demographic balance as well as the city’s socio-economic profile were shaken up in recent years. These changes have reopened old wounds. Before the creation of the State of Israel, Jaffa was a predominantly Palestinian city. Nowadays Jews make up a broad majority of the city's inhabitants and keep gaining even more ground.
