Between the armed groups, the kidnappings and the bombs, biodiversity has become a collateral victim of the Syrian conflict. Syrian agronomists have saved more than 140.000 types of seeds that they forwarded to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in the North Pole.

Nowadays, Syrian scientists in exile make the trip up to the North Pole to recover their collection in this storehouse – the only one of its kind: a vault in ice that preserves a security copy of all the plants that are essential to humankind. They intend to regrow them on Lebanese and Moroccan soils.
