For ten years thousands of Chinese farmers have been making a fortune thanks to online sales. In villages throughout the Yunnan, locals who used to farm are now starting online businesses – international trade is booming in rural China.

Ten years ago, online trade started growing in the coastal province of Zhejiang – thanks to business persons such as Lu Zhenhong. Hailing from a small village, he made a fortune by creating a new online sale model: he buys and resells camping gear. His sales model has spread all over the Zhejiang.

In 2017, around 800 billion euros have been spent online in China. The Chinese government encourages this new form of trade that improves standards of living throughout the countryside. This new form of revolution is still patchy depending on the regions but it has already seen millions of farmers leave their hoe to earn a living online.
