They were once brothers, friends, neighbours or simply compatriots. Today they are enemies.
The war between separatists and the Kiev government in East Ukraine has created new borders and torn the nation apart. During the holidays, thousands of parents send their children to “patriotic” camps where they learn the rudiments of combat, how to take a Kalashnikov apart and nationalism.
Nearly 3 years after the start of the conflict, Ukrainian youth has lost its bearings. The aspirations of Maidan Square have been jeopardized by the corruption scandals shaking the current authorities. Within a context of rising unemployment, peace remains wishful thinking.
What are the aspirations of a generation marked by war? Are they really that different either side of the front line?
