Since 2009, JSC Russian Railways has been providing health care for remote villages on board its trains between Siberia and the Far East.

The drift to cities has left the remaining populations of these far-flung places even more isolated. They have no roads or Internet access, let alone village dispensaries: the railway is their only link with the outside world.
Russian Railways' five on-board clinical and diagnostic outpatients services are warm and comfortable. Each unit has its own medical imaging equipment and laboratory, and a team of around 20 specialists including a cardiologist, a gynaecologist, a neurologist and an ophthalmologist, who can examine and treat up to 200 patients per day, free of charge.
