The first eloquence contest of Kabul was held in early May. The theme was violence against women: Honor killings, adultery, intersexuality... This contest brought together law students from Bamyan, Herat, Mazar e Sharif and Kabul.
The competition is organized by Abdul Wadood Pedram – president of the Human Rights and Eradication Violence Organization (HREVO) association. This eloquence contest runs afoul of secular traditions that are highly regarded in Afghan society. Here different ethnicities do not mix and a woman's place is in the house rather than in university or on a stage.
