Since the official end of the war against the Islamic State last Fall, Iraq has imprisoned thousands of terrorists hailing from the world over – they had come to support the Islamic extremist organization.

Human Rights activists are worried about this secretive, unpredictable and overworked Justice system – a regular target for the Islamic State.
Iraqis however are increasingly frustrated by the constant questioning about their institutions. They are reaffirming their legitimacy to judge European terrorists who committed some of the worst crimes against populations.
Among the prisoners there are some surviving fighters but more importantly there are thousands of women and children – most of them were captured in Mosul. The adults risk the death penalty (by hanging), following their trial by a criminal court.
