All along the Arctic coast of Norway, there's a bloody battle going on between three different species: orcas, whales…and humans! And it's all over the vast schools of herring that migrate to the Frozen North to seek shelter there in the fjords.!

Follow Didier Noirot, one of the world's greatest underwater cameramen, as he tracks down the giants of the deep - using 8K underwater cameras and drones - and dives right into the heart of the hunt. Orcas – or "killer whales" – have developed what is called the "carousel" technique for catching herring: they surround them with bubbles then drive them up to the surface. But now the other whales are no longer scared of joining in to claim their share of the booty. Then there are the humans, with their huge nets: they too are after the same prize. Who is going to win the Herring War?

Everywhere on the planet cities seem to pop up and grow, sometimes despite climatic or geographical conditions that seem impossible to live in. How do people acclimate to lead a normal life?

Follow Alexandra, a travel reporter, to meet those living in the most extreme cities of the world. The coldest, warmest, highest, most humid, etc. First stop in Yakutsk, Siberia and then La Paz in Bolivia,  to show the incredible adaptability of their inhabitants.
Some are extremely cold, others extremely hot, very high, very isolated or incredibly densely populated. The planet already has dozens of cities which, seen from our perspective, do not appear to be very appealing places to live. And yet, people like them and live in them, unaware that their daily life is a feat in itself.
Journalist Alexandra Alevêque will experience life in some of the most extreme cities in the world, living in each one long enough to learn about the locals' way of life.
What she brings back is an insight into humankind's incredible capacity to adapt and find behavioural and organisational solutions.
What do these unusual cities look like?
What is life like for their inhabitants?
What can we learn from them?

Far from the frenzy of urban life, DESTINATIONS is an invitation to enjoy the simple pleasure of traveling to the four corners of the world to discover places that inspired the great artists, resulting in an exchange between a land, a town, a landscape and a work of art.

The Provence of Cézanne, the Brazil of Stefan Zweig, the Kenya of Karen Blixen, the Catalonia of Salvador Dali, or the Japan of Katsushika Hokusai. The series will also take in places fashioned by mankind which have become legendary in their own right, such as Jerusalem, Harar in Ethiopia, the hanging gardens of Singapore, and the iconic Route 66.
DESTINATIONS tells how these places have evolved through history, and which cultures shaped their character, their monuments, their music and their gastronomy. In 13 minutes, these films combine learning with the pleasure of delightful images and unusual encounters with local figures and artistic sensibilities. This is an invitation on a slow voyage, to satisfy an urge for adventure, with some enlightening stopovers to fire the curiosity, inspiring one to pack one’s bags and immerse oneself in the experience.

Fire dancing in Papua New Guinea or climbing to the top of the Ethiopian cliffs to introduce one’s child to God: this series reveals how some people today still practice rituals that structure their lives and become, beyond a simple social bond, a structuring force and a source of culture.

In societies that struggle to find their bearings, rituals - whether pagan or mysterious - are of particular importance when people are confronted with the unknown, illness, death, not knowing what tomorrow is made of. Rituals help organise chaos, warding off our fears and bringing to light the meaning in our lives.
Anthropologist, Anne-Sylvie Malbrancke, helps us understand and experience these moments with those who practice them.

Volcanoes dominate human life in the most surprising ways. Half a billion people live at their feet. They are essential to our our existence but may cause our doom.

This blue chip 4 x 52' (and more to come) takes us to 40 volcanoes filmed across 6 continents over 2 years to learn about sacred volcanos, beneficial volcanos, and destructive volcanos to tell the amazing story of the symbiotic link between men and these fire mountains.
Volcanoes led to dinosaurs’ extinction and wiped entire civilizations – like the Minoans in Crete and Santorini in 1450 BCE. Today, the lives of 600 million people are threatened by 1670 active volcanoes. The entire planet is affected: when Mount Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines, global temperatures fell by nearly 1°C for three years. Recent studies suggest that humankind will eventually be wiped out by a gigantic volcanic eruption…
But volcanoes are not just destroyers of world, they also nurture life. It is thought that they may have helped creating life on Earth. Even today, certain wildlife species such as the giant Galápagos tortoise are only found on particular volcanoes. Human beings have always flocked to settle volcanoes in huge numbers to take advantage of their fertile soil, pleasant climate and natural heat sources. Many are even worshipped as deities.

In the Darhat valley of northern Mongolia, the horses of the nomadic tribes are disappearing. Bandits are stealing them to sell to Russian abattoirs for just a few rubles. But Shukhert, a crime-fighting Darhat horseman, is relentlessly pursuing them to the Taiga mountain range of Mongolia, on the border with Siberia.

When his white stallion disappeared, Shukhert embarked upon a race against time to track down the bandits, find his horse, and bring it home before winter.
In this documentary, like a Western set in the East, life seems stranger than fiction – despite this being an absolutely authentic tale.

Horse thefts are commonplace in this region, each triggering epic hunts across the spectacular steppes of northern Mongolia.

From Buddhism to Shamanism, from horses to reindeer, and from hunters to those looking for gold, his journey is punctuated by a range of encounters that help explain the diversity of this complex region with its ethnic and socio-economic tensions.

Thanks to his knowledge of the Mongolian territory, culture, and language, and his extensive experience of the region over the past 10 years, Hamid Sardar takes us on a journey into a world accessible only to a rare few, where safety and justice are pushed to their limits.
