In the Middle Ages, master builders reinvented the art of construction to erect the Gothic cathedrals. In Paris, a vast building site gave rise to the most famous of these stone wonders: Notre-Dame. Seven centuries passed between the laying of the first stone and its restoration in the 19th century, during which time the cathedral witnessed some tumultuous moments in the history of France, from the most glorious to its darkest periods.

This great historical sweep is told through a gripping documentary recreation using 3D animation, combined with exclusive footage and interview sequences to provide the context and explain the construction techniques to recount the destiny of the men and women who, driven by their faith, ambition and skill, built, embellished, and finally saved Paris’s cathedral. The Secrets of the Builders : Notre-Dame blends powerful drama and scientific rigor based on detailed historical research, resulting a in a new filmic language through which to recount history. The film is produced for France 5’s prime-time science slot. Historians, scientists, architects and engineers will be interviewed to bring factual elements to this epic story.

After the success of the first season of THE GREAT GREEK MYTHS, we bring you the next chapter! An adaptation of Homer's Iliad. An epic poem which recounts the Trojan War.

The Greeks cross the sea to lay siege to Troy and reclaim the beautiful Helen, abducted from her husband King Menelaus of Sparta by Prince Paris of Troy. After a ten-year siege of the city walls of Troy, the war turns in the Greeks favour thanks to the heroics of the famous Achilles. But were these mortals really the heroes of this war or were they merely pawns in the hands of the Gods?
Following on from the first season, each episode alternates scenes of original animation created in 3D and a rich iconography chosen from the whole of art history, from Antiquity to the Modern era.

Almost 100 years after the discovery of King's Tut's Tomb, it is time to tell the story in a new light. This film uses 2D and 3D imagery to reconstruct the tomb, the mummy, the funerary objects and the topography of the famous valley of the Kings. We will discover that the treasure was not Tutankhamun's, but his sister's, Pharaoh before him! A surprising archaeological investigation.

Ninety years later, for the first time, most of these objects will finally be brought together in the precinct of the great Museum of Giza. Some of them will make their way to the U.S.A. and Paris, where they will be exposed at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industries in the autumn of 2018 - and then in London, Berlin, Tokyo and Sidney. This film is the story of the discovery of a treasure of which we know only a few artefacts. It is also an investigation, and these objects will be so many clues along the way. What do these artefacts tell us about the king and the period of his reign ? In what circumstances were they discovered and taken away from the pharaoh’s tomb ? These are some of the many elements of this documentary narrative.

THE TRUE STORY OF RASCAR CAPAC is a science documentary led like a police investigation into pre-Colombian mummies from Chile and Peru, one of whom, RASPAR CAPAC, inspired The Seven Crystal Balls from The Adventures of Tintin by famous Belgian cartoonist Hergé.

In reality, the mummy Rascar Capac arrived at the Art & History Museum in Brussels in the middle of the 19th century under unknown circumstances. By uncovering the origins of Rascar Capac, the film will reveal previously unknown facts about his life, the reasons for his death and even which illnesses he had.

The documentary will follow the investigation in the field, in specialised laboratories in Belgium and France and along the wild Pacific coast of Chile and Peru. Using modern technology to research and carry out tests on Rascar and other similar mummies will allow us to understand a lot more about these pre-Columbian mummies who, compared to their Egyptian counterparts, we still know very little about.

The story of Anheherbe, the scientific research organisation the Reich used to justify its conquests and racial crimes. "Himmler, the leader of the SS, was convinced that we need to rewrite the past in order to control the present and dominate the future".

Between History and Science, this doc highlights an unknown chapter of the “Nazi Center for Scientific Research“ settled in the 30s and dedicated to legitimate the political Nazi Project and the Final Solution. How could the Third Reich lead 10 years of scientific researches completely dedicated to support the Nazi ideology? How could some of the most brilliant minds of the 20th century turn away from lights and sink into darkness? How could they use science to serve a totalitarian dictatorship ? What secret projects and what ideological purposes motivated this Nazi scientific company ? This documentary will reveal the key to these mysteries.

In May 1992, a motorway near Palermo, Sicily, explodes killing Judge Falcone and several people of his inner circle, marking the climax in the war between the Italian State and the Cosa Nostra that killed thousands. One year later, after a 25-year manhunt, Toto Riina, the Godfather of all Godfathers, is finally arrested and brought to justice in a historic trial.

In a 5-year in depth investigation, discover how a young rural mobster took power in the 1970’s over the Cosa Nostra, Sicily’s legendary mafia, torturing and killing each competitor one by one, becoming the most feared and violent organized-crime leader ever.  He broke the mafia code by declaring war on the Italian State, multiplying assassinations and establishing terror among government, police, the judicial systems and the Sicilian people.

This is the story of the rise and fall of Toto Riina, through interviews of prosecutors, judges, police officers, lawyers and his own inside-men who are now repentant and have accepted to collaborate with justice.

For 60 years, Fidel Castro was a thorn in the side of USA and a symbol of anti-imperialist struggle. Castro and his compatriots played a prominent role on the international stage and contributed to changing the world.

Award-winning producers Temps Noir (Cuba, an African Odyssey, Africa, history of a continent) and Brook Lapping (Obama Years, Putin, Russia and the West, Iran and the West) have put their talents together to produce a fascinating insider account of 60 years of Cuba’s history and its place in the world.

Castro and his team changed the world in a way that was inconceivable for a mere Island in the Caribbean. By sending troops to fight alongside left--‐wing revolutionaries in Africa, and using soft power to influence other regimes in Latin America, Cuba–in Fidel’s words–"was a small country which behaved as if it had the resources of a great power". Moreover, he managed to get away with it for more than three decades.

For the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution in 2019, with views from every side–the Cubans, the Russians, the Americans and the rest – this film will reveal the history of Cuba as never before.

The working class has played an essential part of European countries’ history – through revolutions, wars and social progress.  In 4 episodes of a spectacular tale, this show reminds us of what our societies owe to the workers’ movements and its struggles.

The story begins in the 18th century. But their fight carries on today. Much of our current democracies’ institutions and values flow from older working class demands: universal suffrage or social solidarity are some of its most telling examples. Our culture – the way we dress, the songs we listen to, the movies we watch and the mass-media themselves – heavily relies on the workers’ erstwhile popular culture. Finally, all across Asia, Africa and Latin America, millions of women and men experience lives similar to the 18th and 19th centuries’ European working class. We will bring out the present’s ever looming shadow by constantly flowing back and forth between history and current situations. Those contemporary testimonies and photographs will help us gather the threads of memory between yesterday and nowadays together again.

Famous for its ghost, the Garnier Opera House is above all the product of a titanic building site and the window of a time, the Second Empire. From 1852 to 1870, eighteen years of flamboyance made Paris the capital of modernity and the seat of "the civilization of opera".

This 90-minute documentary aims to tell the story of the great Paris construction of the Garnier Opera House, which lasted 14 years (from 1861 to 1875). While plunging into the backstage, its wheels and its legends, it will explain the special place it occupied in what Nietzsche called the "civilization of opera", the golden age of the bourgeoisie based on the appearance and the spectacular, which was then put in place. By the admission of Charles Garnier, the Opera as a whole was to serve as stage for the new elite of the time. From the story of its construction and architectural details, we will open windows on historical, social, political and artistic themes that will be treated to the image by paintings, period photos, film clips, animations in 3D and historical evocations (fiction). We will also call on specialized speakers on these different themes. Interviewed in studio and in situ, they will guide us, step by step, in this building still alive and full of anecdotes. Throughout the story, we will also follow the myth of the ghost, invented from scratch by the novelist Gaston Leroux, and so well integrated into the monument that it remains today THE symbol and an important key to understanding. Finally, music and ballet will be present in this film, in the form of musical excerpts and lyrical performances.

This film retraces the pharaohs’ – from Ramses II to Cleopatra – and the Romans’ steps to better understand the turbulent history of their temples up until their rescues. Thanks to an unprecedented international mobilization, discover an exceptional heritage saved at the cost of a "pharaonic" trip.

When they returned from southern Egypt, travelers reported the existence of temples between the Nubian desert and the Nile. Majestic stone colossi emerging from the sands kept the doors and their secrets. For centuries, Abu Simbel, Dendur, Amada and other monuments were victims of looting, earthquakes, desert encroachment and floods, only to end up almost being swallowed up by the waters in the 20th century. In 1954, the announcement of the construction of a dam threatened the whole of Nubia and more than 20 ancient shrines. Some temples were dismantled in a hurry and relocated to artificial islands, others were even shipped abroad in places such as Madrid, Turin or even New York. Former construction site workers attest to the grueling working conditions during operations. We also present archives revealing the ingenious rescue plans explained in 3D animations.
