From the American preparations to the capture of Saddam Hussein, this documentary takes a fresh look at the invasion of Iraq through the accounts of Iraqis.

From previously unaired accounts of Iraqis, including former soldiers and leaders, civilians, future insurgents, journalists and opponents in exile, the film retraces, in minute detail, the critical year of the invasion, with as its counterpoint, the tales of members of the US military and reporters who were present during the intervention.

In these previously unaired images, we discover US military operations from the inside, but also - and more importantly - scenes of splendour of a dictatorship caught up in lies and unprepared for war.

By counterbalancing the official media scenario put forward by the Americans, this documentary provides an understanding of how, from an easy war in the face of a depleted country, the United States found themselves entangled in a civilian insurrection led by a disillusioned people, who they did not even attempt to understand and who they drove to revolt.

"Laws of war" takes us to the heart of these laws. Increasing numbers of armed groups, cross-border conflicts, killer robots, the influence of religion on the rules of engagement… Although the number of soldiers killed in combat has fallen dramatically since the end of the Second World War, civilians are now the primary victims of conflicts which ride roughshod over the rules and regulations.

In Moscow, religious power and political power work hand in hand in building Russia’s new ultra conservative and imperial identity. Kirill, the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church is Putin’s ally. He leads his church, influences Russian society and participates in international debates.

The Russian Church is back : helped by Putin who saw in this institution the useful cement of a Russia without future plan after the fall of Soviet Union, the church tries to impose its views on social issues in its country and wants to play a parallel diplomatic role abroad, to get back to its status under the Czars.  Exceptionally, Kirill, the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, has agreed on being filmed during a year, and takes us to meetings with Russian political leaders he invites in his Moscow cathedral, with the Palestinian president Mahmood Abbas, or above all with Putin, with who he parades ad infinitum. Their plan ?  Restore Holy Russia, propose a reactionary alternative to the western powers, that both denounce even to caricature.

An investigative documentary that examines the alarming and inexorable rise of household over-indebtedness throughout Europe, and the battle against this economic, social and human scourge.

All over Europe, household over-indebtedness is on the rise; it’s a ticking time bomb. Though it doesn’t always lead to suicide, it often causes a ‘little death’ of economic and social exclusion and serious psychological distress, a nightmare from which it is extremely hard to escape.

Within a few months, the Greek neo-Nazi party, Golden Dawn, became the country’s third political force. This vindictive, authoritarian and populist far right was brought about by the 2008 economic crisis. Insecurity, precariousness, collapse of public services and distrust towards political and financial elites largely paved their way.

In other European countries, similar radical parties followed the same path surfing on the harmful consequences of excessive austerity plans. In Greece, the measures imposed by the «troïka» were far from achieving the targeted results. The country is bled dry, democracy and civil order is under threat. Encounter with a population in disarray.

Surfing on rising discontent in the face of economic recession or crisis, populist movements have multiplied electoral victories. How can the growing success of these organizations be explained? An investigation into the workings of blooming forms of extremism.

They pretend to speak in the name of “the people,” cleverly embracing widespread expectations. To each issue, they invariably offer the same answers : Down with immigration, the European Union, and the elites.
Whether it is Marine Le Pen in France, Geert Wilders in the Netherlands, Viktor Orbán in Hungary, Beppe Grillo in Italy, the leaders of these political movements have managed to capture the allegiance of increasing numbers of citizens, relying on punchy catchphrases and simplistic rhetoric that have helped them build respectable façades.
Some of them have joined forces on the European scale to conquer the EU Parliament. Are they really on their way to power?

Antoine Vitkine carried out a wide investigation throughout the Old Continent, filming at close range the main protagonists of the populist galaxy, from voters to populist leaders. He  analysed the speeches and methods of populist organizations while gauging the various forms of anger, fear and frustration on which they thrive. A trenchant documentary exploring the workings of those new forms of extremism which pose a threat to Europe.

As the Calais jungle was set to be razed in October 2016, there were over 1900 unaccompanied minors stranded there - many of whom had a legal case to enter the UK. Sue fought to get these children recognised and their cases heard.

Young people had a legal case to be transferred to the UK under two pieces of EU and UK legislation. But as the film heartbreakingly tells, the UK government was not going to allow them to exercise these rights. But with the camp soon to go up in flames, could she do it in time? And what would happen to the children if not?

As a former CIA and NSA collaborator, Edward Snowden leaked the biggest mass surveillance scandal of the century. A secret meeting between him and global freedom and civil rights campaigners, Birgitta Jonsdottir and Larry Lessig turns into a freewheeling discussion about the future of democracy.

Russian hints that the country could hand over America's most wanted whistle blower as a favor to Donald Trump place Edward Snowden in even greater danger than before.
Birgitta Jonsdottir is a member of Iceland’s parliament; all her actions have been aimed at giving the people their voice back and opening up the parliamentary process and political decision-making.
Larry Lessig is a Harvard law professor. He tirelessly denounces the influence of money in US politics and the way establishment elites collude to support each other against the public interest.
The three activists agreed to be filmed during an extraordinary conversation about their ongoing struggles, the last bastions of democracy and the opportunities and choices still left to us.
The questions they ask are fundamental. Can democracy be saved? What unites us? How can you tell when democracy has failed?
