The Iodake volcano covers more than half of the surface of the Satsuma Iwojima island, in southwest Japan. Its inhabitants have been living on sulfur extraction for almost a millennium, before the activity of Iodake declined.
While many have left their native island, others are working to attract tourists and new residents.
