Covering just 98 hectares (242 acres) Montrésor is the smallest commune in the Indre-et-Loire department.

In the Middle Ages, the castle here was a fortress, and in the 15th century became a country residence for royal hunting parties. Damaged during the French Revolution, both the village and the castle started a new life in the 19th century, thanks to the arrival of a rich Polish immigrant, Count Xavier Branicki, a friend of Napoleon III. Since then, the village has been proud of its Franco-Polish heritage and identity.
